REAL FOOD / ANCIENT WISDOM / BUILT FOR LONGEVITY

The Story

RE FOOD COMPANY

I was seven the first time food made me sick.

Nobody could tell me why. It took thirty-five years for a doctor to name it. By then I had already figured it out on my own.

A sunlit table in a southern Italian garden under the olive trees, the sea beyond.

My mother is from Puglia. She never followed a recipe in her life and she was the best cook I’ve known.

In her house, real food was never called healthy. It was just called food.

That was the standard I grew up with. It’s also the one I couldn’t find anywhere once I left her table.

So I made my own. Every morning, for years.

I called it my ritual box. Whatever my body could handle that day — some cheese, a few dates, ginger, seeds, nuts. It changed depending on how I felt.

I travelled with a suitcase of food. Not a bag. A suitcase.

It was essentially a charcuterie board, taken apart and packed into a box.

A morning board laid out on green marble beside an espresso.

I CAN’T KEEP RUNNING AN
ASSEMBLY LINE EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE.

There has to be one thing. One ritual I could keep.

Not long after, I was sitting in a piazza in Abruzzo, eating an entire block of cheese instead of lunch.

I didn’t order lunch. We had the mountains ahead of us that afternoon and I didn’t want to feel heavy — so I ate a block of cheese and kept walking for hours.

My husband watched me do it and said: you make so many other things — why don’t you make something with this?

He said it again the next week. And the week after. For about a year.

A terrace at golden hour, umbrellas and a flowering stone wall above a valley of villages and mountains.

We had been looking for two years by then. Not for a product — for something to build together. Eighteen years of being in each other’s businesses, consulting each other across completely different industries, and we still hadn’t found the thing that was ours.

THE SEARCH TOOK TWO YEARS.
THE ANSWER TOOK AN AFTERNOON.

I never went to school for any of this. No degree in nutrition, no credential to put after my name. What I have is a life spent paying very close attention — and the best teacher I could have asked for.

RE Food Company is the name on the door. But the company we registered is Mamma Terra Wellness — Italian for Mother Earth. That name came first, and it wasn’t decoration. When the doctors didn’t have answers, nature did. She taught me to read my own body, through trial and error, over decades.

If you’re making real food, there’s nobody better to credit.

This is my personal story and my own philosophy about real food — it is educational, not medical advice. Please speak to your own healthcare provider about your body.

The idea had been in that box the whole time. Not the recipe — the thought. One thing, instead of ten.

The first versions were inedible. Dry, chalky, falling apart in my hands. I threw out far more than I kept.

Old olive bark, close.

MAKES IT BETTER

Holding it together was only half of it. Every ingredient had to earn its place. Not just: will it stick.

The person I most needed to convince was my sister. She doesn’t like cheese — never has. She finished the whole thing and asked me for another one. That was the day I knew.

I refused to sell something I wouldn’t eat myself. That was the whole standard, and it cost us a year.

Nothing fake. No fillers, no artificial binders, nothing engineered to make the job easier. Everything in it came from the earth, and everything in it is there on purpose.

RE is the Italian word for king.

It’s also the sun on our mark — the thing everything on this earth grows under. Nothing lives without it.

AND THEN THERE’S 11:11.

In our house, at 11:11, everyone stops. Whatever we’re doing — a laugh, a smile, a hug, a text. It was our minute to state our intentions. It started as a family habit and became the whole idea: one minute, every day, that belongs to you.

Now we’re sharing it.

One medallion. One moment of intention. Yours, every day.

We chose two letters because everything we needed to say was already in them.

I COULDN’T FIND IT.
SO I MADE IT.

The Making

  1. The search took two years. The answer took an afternoon.

For two years, my husband and I have been searching for something to build together, we just didn’t know what.

  2. The piazza in Abruzzo where RE began

The day I ate a whole block of Parmigiano Reggiano instead of lunch in a piazza in Abruzzo, and accidentally started a company.
